Admission procedure

This is information on the Graduate School application procedure.

※ PLEASE BE SURE to contact the expected supervisor of your major and obtain approval from them before applying.

◆Application Requirements

Doctoral Course in Veterinary Medicine

  • (1) Completion of a 6-year curriculum in veterinary medicine, medicine, or dentistry at a Japanese university by March 2016 (September 2015 for fall admission).

  • (2) Completion of 18 years of formal education at schools outside Japan by March 2016 (or September 2015 for fall admission).

  • (3) Completion of a Master’s program or can otherwise be conferred a Master’s degree by March 2016 (or September 2015 for fall admission).

  • (4) Completion of 4 years of veterinary education under Japan’s former university System, and have at least 2 years of experience in veterinary research or other relevant work at the time of enrollment.

Doctoral Course in Veterinary Nursing and Technology

Doctoral Course in Applied Life Science

Completion of a Master’s program or otherwise conferred a Master’s degree by March 2016.

Master’s Course in Veterinary Nursing and Technology

Master’s Course in Applied Life Science

  • (1) Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program by March 2016.

  • (2) Completion of 16 years of formal education at schools outside Japan by March 2016.


◆Application Deadline

Fall admissions (enrollment on October 1, 2015): June 30, 2015

(※We have fall admission only for the Doctoral Course in Veterinary Medicine)

First Round (enrollment April 1, 2016): September 11, 2015

Second Round (enrollment April 1, 2016): December 22, 2015

◆Admission Procedure

Applicants must submit the following documents directly to the office and receive an examination voucher. On posting your application, your examination voucher will be mailed after the application acceptance period.

    • 1. Application Form: use the form designated by the university. <click here for download>

    • 2. Photographs: must be taken within 6 months prior to application and attached to the application form and examination voucher (upper body, bare head, face front, 3 × 3 cm).

    • 3. Curriculum Vitae: free format.

    • 4. Summary of Master/Bachelor Thesis in English: applicants are required to submit an English summary of their research thesis equivalent to a Master’s thesis in approximately 1,200 words.

    • 5. Research Proposal: clarify what field of study and research content you plan to undertake in 300-600 English words (free format).

    • 6. Acceptance Letter: use the copy of the acceptance letter or e-mail.

    • 7. Self-Introduction Sheet: free format.

    • 8. Statement of Purpose: free format.

    • 9. Academic Credentials: submit an official certificate of graduation or statement of graduation eligibility status for a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree.

    • 10. Academic Transcripts: submit an official transcript from the applicant’s undergraduate/graduate school(s).

    • 11. Recommendation Letter from home institution.

    • 12. Certificate of language capability in Japanese and English (e.g., JLPT, IELTS, or TOEFL).

    • 13. Copy of Passport.

    Master’s Course in Veterinary Nursing and Technology

    Master’s Course in Applied Life Science

    • 1. Application Form: use the form designated by the university.<click here for download>

    • 2. Photographs: must be taken within 6 months prior to application and attached to the application form and examination voucher (upper body, bare head, face front, 3 × 3 cm).

    • 3. Curriculum Vitae: free format.

    • 4. Summary of Bachelor Thesis or research achievements in English: applicants are required to submit an English summary of their research thesis in 500 words.

    • 5. Self-Introduction Sheet: free format.

    • 6. Academic Transcripts: submit an official transcript from the applicant’s undergraduate/graduate school(s).

    • 7. Recommendation Letter from home institution.

    • 8. Certificate of language capability in Japanese and English (e.g., JLPT, IELTS, and TOEFL).

    • 9. Copy of Passport.

  • (3) Application Fee

    Applicants must pay 20,000 yen as an application fee.

◆Tuition

Annual fee: 835,000 yen (Fees for classes: 680,000 yen, Fees for practice: 150,000 yen).

You need to pay 5,000 yen per year as a welfare fee in a lump sum only for the first year.

You need to pay 200,000 yen as a matriculation fee only for the first year.

◆Scholarship

  • (1) If you are not a student funded by the Japanese government and are financially disadvantaged, your fees for classes may be reduced 30% if you meet the requirements and pass the selection process. Please inquire if you would like to get detailed information.

  • (2) Nippon Medical School Foundation Scholarship is worth up to 100,000 yen per month. If you are selected as a recipient, you can receive scholarship for 2 years at the most. The selection is made only once, and the deadline for application is the end of September every year. Please inquire if you would like to get detailed information.

◆Teaching Assistant

If you are selected as a Teaching Assistant who works for your laboratory at least 24 h per month, your fees for classes may be reduced by 50% if you meet the requirements and pass the selection process, which is held once per year in April.

You have no requirement to apply to be a TA if you are a student funded by the Japanese government.
